If you've spent the past two weeks in Fantasy Football drafts, you need to do two things: 1) Read the following article on Fantasy Footbal by Steven Michalovich and 2) Seek professional help.

Living Your Fantasy

Summer is coming to a close, and the autumn months are quickly approaching.  Children are going back to school. The leaves are starting to turn. The evenings are becoming slightly chillier.

As we move into the fall months, college football starts to heat up. The pro game is ready to launch as well, with their regular season rosters and depth charts taking shape. Sports fans across the globe are excited to see what this promising football season has in store.

But for many, the most exciting thing about football kicking off its season is the full-time obsession that comes with drafting the perfect fantasy football team.

Grown men and women everywhere are using this time to fine-tune their draft selections, rankings, even their team name. (For the purpose of this article, the team is called the Rusty Trombones.) Countless hours are spent watching ESPN, researching on the Web and reading magazines, just to get the proper insight to beat your buddies from high school or your co-workers. This long-standing tradition consistently distracts from schoolwork or being productive at your job. That doesn’t matter. Bigger stakes are at hand.

Tom Brady or Peyton Manning? Who’s the better pick? Is Reggie Bush worth all of the hype? Which kicker is going to slip under the radar at a cheap price? Will Terrell Owens play in half of Dallas’ games? These are the questions that crazed fantasy footballers are haunted with in their sleep, at work or during a barbeque ribs slam session.

Research and dedication goes into making the perfect team. Teasing and joking with your opponents has led you to this pivotal point. It is time to draft. There is nothing left to kid about. It’s time to strategize. It is time to make an elite team. Do you go for a sure thing in the first round with Tiki Barber, or do you follow the experts and take a chance on Larry Johnson? After the grueling task of drafting your players and downing some beers is through, you are pleased with your team. It’s pretty hard not to when your roster consists of Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, Carson Palmer, Hines Ward, Chad Johnson, Jeremy Shockey, Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Adam Vinatieri and Tampa Bay’s defense.

You will ride that team into the season. For the next weeks, you are no longer a student, father, mother, friend, girlfriend, boyfriend or employee. You are the general manager of the Rusty Trombones, and this season is yours for the taking.

Through five games, you are 4-1. Things are looking bright, until McNabb and Palmer go down with injuries. You need some backup. Your conniving (former) friend will “help” you out with Trent Green, but he wants your starting running back and backup tight end in return. What do you do? You make the deal, and it turns out to be a surprise move as Green slings five touchdown passes in a blowout win. The wheelings and dealings is what make fantasy football great.

Your franchise will suffer some losses and experience some major lows throughout the long season, but it is all worth it if the Rusty Trombones come out on top when it is all said and done. Fantasy Football glory is yours. You are the king of the cubicles. The best of your bitter buddies. And you are sure to let everyone know about it. You earned it. The countless hours that you put into this team, paid off in the end.

The season is over, but only in theory. You have all of winter, spring and summer to begin plotting your next team. Besides, you have a title to defend come next season.

The tradition of college and professional football is upon us. With that comes another great tradition, fantasy football. With a little luck, patience, hard work, beer, disregard for your responsibilities and fried food, your Rusty Trombones will be well on their way to a successful season. Good luck to all of you out there who are just living the fantasy this season.
