Reality TV is about to cross that fine line between guilty pleasure and going way too far. Single Red Sox fans won’t need to log onto match.com or eharmony.com much longer. Starting in July, Scout Productions will begin to air a reality dating game for Red Sox fans on the Sox-owned NESN station. Each episode will focus on one loyal Sox fan looking for a match made in Fenway Park. During the show, this fan will be given the chance to be paired up with a different date every two innings until the seventh inning stretch, when the Sox fan will then choose who to spend the rest of the game with. The person chosen can either cheer on the Sox with their new match or turn them down, which I’m guessing could potentially be the case during a Red Sox/Yankees game. According to the Boston Herald Business Reporter, Scout Productions is still trying to work out details since airing a show during a Red Sox game could prove to be extremely challenging. This new reality series is going to consist of eight shows with a possibility of two “extra” episodes. It seems that this would surely be a great outlet for any real-life “Fever Pitch” characters. How many times have people gone out on a date thinking that their partner is just an average baseball fan, only to find out he or she is one of the crazed lunatics that plan their life according to the Red Sox’s (or any other team for that matter) game schedule? My guess is that very few of those dates make it out for a second meal. You can only imagine how hard a wedding would be to plan since obviously fall is out of the question, but then there’s the issue of spring training. Scout Productions is hoping that they can give their fans a great “home-base” to start off and potentially meet another fan with as much obsession and dedication to the Red Sox. But a reality dating show during a baseball game? It just seems like this new wave of reality TV is becoming more and more ridiculous to watch. |
